Startup Europe Week is being coined as ‘the biggest entrepreneurship event ever to take place in Europe’ with over 200 events taking place over the continent and Jamie from Social Media Alba ® is making sure Glasgow gets put on Europe’s entrepreneurial map.
From the 1st – 5th February volunteers are collaborating to provide meet-ups, conferences & workshops from Amsterdam to Zurich.
Local entrepreneurs can get a slice of the action on Wednesday 3rd February 6.00-8.00pm through the ‘Glasgow’s Startup Ecosystem’ event at the Orkney Street Enterprise Cells in Govan.
The free networking event will see representatives from some of the city’s biggest start up support agencies gather together to present how they can help local entrepreneurs make their business a success. Budding entrepreneurs will then be able to enter a pitching competition to present their business ideas to these key influencers, with the winner snapping up 2 months free office space. Birdie Marketing, a local boutique marketing agency, will also be on hand on the night with their pop-up marketing help desk, offering free marketing advice to help Glasgow’s start-up businesses take flight.
Jamie Wallace, director of Gaelic social media initiative ‘Social Media Alba’, who is co-organising Startup Europe Week says:
When I saw that only Edinburgh was indicated on the SEW map, I knew then that I had to do something to change that so I jumped on-board to ensure Scotland’s largest city was involved. It’s an amazing achievement which has put me in touch with many of Glasgow and Europe’s leaders and influencers.
Glasgow University will also be supporting the Startup Europe Week by hosting two additional events which invite local entrepreneurs to come along on Thursday 4th February for a live chat with a European Commission representative to explore the opportunities’ available over the channel. This will be followed by the ‘Innovators 60 minute challenge’ event which welcomes the business minds of tomorrow to work together to create a strategy to promote #StartupGlasgow – an initiative from Jamie at Social Media Alba to encourage the development and growth of Glasgow’s Startup ecosystem:
“As we look to the world for trade, we must also be mindful of the talent and resources we have on our doorstep and use them to our best advantage with a ‘Can Do’ attitude. With that in mind, and to build on this year’s Startup Europe Week event, I am hoping, with enough buy-in from the city, that we can replicate the success of #GaelicTwitterDay (Là na #Gàidhlig) with an annual #StartupGlasgow Day on Social Media to help reach out to Glasgow’s entrepreneurs and allow us to continue to develop Glasgow’s Startup ecosystem.”
Glasgow’s Startup Europe Week events are being kindly supported by Jobs & Business Glasgow, YEZ, Wheatley Group, University of Glasgow & Birdie Marketing. All events are free – for more information or tickets visit startupeuropeweek.eu.
